What would you do if Facebook or Instagram disappeared tomorrow?

As someone who makes a living archiving stories for people, I realized 7 years ago we were going to have a problem.

The problem I discovered is that the digitally-stored special moments and traditions of an entire generation will be lost forever. Even less than a decade ago, people used to print photographs at the very least, and many made heirloom albums to boot. But now, so many truly special moments will be lost to future generations because they are loosely held captive on a mobile phone, when they would much rather be handed (literally! from hand to hand) from generation to generation.

I had an epiphany in 2009 and decided I would start at least capturing my own family’s traditions and putting them on the page - I even started some new traditions.

What if I could do this for other families?

Everyone knows to hire a photographer for a wedding, or senior portraits, or maternity & newborn...but what if a visual storyteller like me with an editorial, magazine style approach specialized in documenting individual family traditions and beautiful New England seasonal life?

And what if we did it in a fun, easy, accessible way?

So I am taking my editorial magazine background and bringing it to your family tradition. Let Instagram & Facebook be for today, but let Lumina Traditions be for the future.
