Natural Environmental photo sessions take place in a park, your home, or any other location outside our studio. Innovative Studio photo sessions are custom designed for each client and take place in our York Maine studio. Which should you choose? That depends on the session and sometimes, the time of year. I’ve never met a house/condo/loft that didn’t produce amazing results, but my studio can be fun too. Typically, I shoot on location in York/Portsmouth area in the summer months, and in the studio for the winter months. Also, typically post newborn and crawlers work better in studio, and newborns/walkers work better at home. But both can be super creative, and I can recommend one or the other in our initial consult based on your unique situation, time of year, and other requests. Rain locations are almost always in studio or re-scheduled as convenient. What should we wear and how can I prepare for our session? The single most important factor for a modern session is the clothing, the second is the location. Each and every client is unique and as such, each session is custom designed to capture that dynamic. Once you have decided on a package and a session type, I will send you a detailed “getting to know you” questionnaire and a list of fun ideas to keep in mind as your session approaches. Clients always amaze me though with what they “bring” (could be a piece of clothing or an attitude!!) to the sessions—but our ideas will give you a starting point if nothing else. Most subjects can do it themselves, but if you really want a treat, we also offer head toe styling from a local designer at an additional cost. I don’t see any traditional family portraits on your site—do you have any examples? It’s important to choose the right photographer for your needs and style. My style is sometimes referred to as “lifestyle” or “cinematic.” Meaning, I am generally drawn to real moments in a dramatic setting (could be a natural setting like a beach, or a designed setting like my studio). I prefer not to overly pose or direct a subject, but rather watch for glimpses of naturally beautiful moments and capture them quickly. I like to document the real dynamics of families in action…check out my Family gallery for some great ideas of what I “see.” How do you work with newborns? Any way you let me!! I love photographing newborns and while they can be photographed in studio, I prefer to come to your house…but most important, they need to be photographed before their 14-day birthday. Pre-Scheduling window (10 days after due date) needs to be done well ahead of time with exact scheduling happening just after baby arrives. 10 days old is ideal. I usually take about 2 hours for this session and we just watch and wait and play. Baby can sleep the entire time, or be cranky, or burp up—it’s all adorable! Depending on what package you choose, I can photograph just baby, or baby + parents, or other combinations. But I generally encourage just photographing newborn baby for this session and giving tired parents a break! How does pricing and booking work? Creative fee of $350 is due to secure your booking, all of the fee goes toward the purchase of any collections. We offer custom 8x10's starting at $60. Collections average $825 to $2500. There are many boutique items available a la carte. All sessions include a pre-consultation, 1 hour on location or in studio session, 7 day online slideshow and choice of wall or album collections, or both, and many ala carte options as well. I recommend booking as far in advance as possible, particularly as the holiday season approaches. There are just a few easy steps from initial consult to sharing heirloom presentation pieces with your family and friends. Use our contact form or call to see the current full color price list. Be sure to stay on our mailing list to receive all the latest offerings. You don’t sell a DVD of images, why not? Our vision of your session doesn’t end when I put the camera down. It’s just beginning. The real service I am providing is two fold: the capturing of images, and the sourcing and creating of unique heirloom presentation pieces that you will treasure forever. Here is another way to put it: let's say you are going to a hip local high end restaurant and the after you order, the chef brings all the raw ingredients to your table and says "ok, now you make it." That is how I feel about handing over a disc to clients. Also, mass produced card or calendar or books of questionable quality is what you may end up with the local (or online) quickie photo mart--why go to the trouble of hiring a unique photographer who has put 100s of hours into sourcing equally unique products if this what you will end with? However, a DVD of images is available as archival media only in my top packages ($2500-$3500)—but not as the product itself. Ultimately, I want you to have truly one of a kind products you will treasure for a lifetime. When we will see our images and what is turnaround time for prints and albums? We are excited to share with you! Generally 2-4 weeks after your session the images will be available, and then another 4-6 weeks from placing order you will have your products in hand. Exceptions may arise at the holiday season, where all orders that are not holiday may take an additional 2-4 weeks. Every print and album must be hand inspected and pass our rigorous quality assurance before we deliver to our clients. Rush orders are available and may have a charge. |
